TD Toronto Jazz Festival with Kaiso Street Collective

Kaiso Street Collective is a new ensemble composed of some of Toronto’s most exciting improvisers and composers who share deep musical and cultural connections to jazz and Afro-Caribbean musical traditions.

Led by Juno-nominated, Trinidadian-born saxophonist Jesse Ryan, the grandson of the late calypso veteran Clifton Ryan ‘The Mighty Bomber”; the ensemble is dedicated to presenting fresh arrangements of music from the golden age of calypso to new audiences, re-imagined through the lens of modern jazz.

The Humber 50th Anniversary Band is featured on the second half, with Pat LaBarbera, Colleen Allen and Jesse Ryan (saxophone), Kevin Turcotte (trumpet), William Carn (trombone), Trevor Giancola (guitar), Andrew Scott (guitar), Thomas Francis (piano), Lauren Falls (bass) and current student Jackson Haynes (drums) taking the listener on a journey through each decade of Humber Music.

Formed by current Humber students, Dain Carandang and Angela Pincente, in alliance with music colleagues from other schools in Toronto, this electrifying big band is an inspiring demonstration of the spirit of inclusion and collaboration that are core values of Humber.
